WARREN, Mich.--General Motors Co. Chief Executive
Mary Barra has dismissed 15 employees and reprimanded five others in the wake of what she called a "brutally tough and deeply troubling" report by former U.S. Attorney Anton Valukas that chronicled why it took the auto maker 11 years to recall cars equipped with a defective ignition switch linked to numerous accidents and deaths. "What [the report] found was a pattern of incompetence and neglect," Ms. Barra said Thursday during a town hall style meeting with about 1,000 employees at the company's Warren, Mich., technical center. Her presentation was broadcast to employees around the world.
