Legal Tag Team Pins a Deal Maker

By their own admission, it was a shotgun marriage. Randall Baron, a scrappy former prosecutor from Los Angeles, and Joel Friedlander, an alumnus of one of New York's most prestigious firms, were first thrust together by a judge overseeing a 2003 case against WorldPort Communications Inc. They represented shareholders in the action and won them a better deal. In the years since, they have taken on more cases together with unusual success, earning more than $70 million on behalf of disgruntled shareholders and tens of millions of dollars in fees for themselves and their firms.
