Prompted by a 2012 attack on an upstate city court that left a court officer injured and the gunman dead, court officers throughout New York state are under a new mandate to wear bullet-proof vests while on duty. The 2012 attack was a "wake up call for everyone," according to a court system spokesman, who added, "And Middletown, the fact that it happened in a more rural area, was an eye-opener."
