Court Overturns Conviction Of Bin Laden Driver

It said Salim Ahmed Hamdan's conviction for providing material support for terrorism had to be overturned because his actions — driving the al-Qaida leader around — were not a war crime at the time. The ruling does not directly affect Hamdan, who was released in 2009, but may have a big impact on cases at Guantanamo Bay that have yet to be litigated.

Is A Law Still Necessary To Prevent This Shoe-Fitting Practice?

xray%20xrays%20foot%20feet%20shoe%20shoes.jpg

Surely at one point this law served some purpose - maybe back when people knew what roentgen rays were. But now? It seems unlikely, though RCW 70.98.170 (Prohibition — fluoroscopic x-ray shoefitting devices) is still on the books in Washington. It reads as follows:

The operation or maintenance of any X-ray, fluoroscopic, or other equipment or apparatus employing roentgen rays, in the fitting of shoes or other footwear or in the viewing of bones in the feet is prohibited. This prohibition does not apply to any licensed physician, surgeon, *podiatrist, or any person practicing a licensed healing art, or any technician working under the direct and immediate supervision of such persons.
You'll find the law here.

Council of Europe rules against Greece labor reform measures

[JURIST] The Council of Europe [official website] found Friday that two labor reforms adopted by Greece as part of wider efforts to curb the nation's financial crises were illegal. The Council's non-binding ruling [Reuters report] concerned two measures passed by the Greek government in 2010 at the urging of the country's international creditors. One provision extended to one year the "trial period" during which workers can be dismissed without notice, and the other measure cut, to two-thirds of the national...
